The great stillness — Mahadev, the auspicious one beyond thought.
Where to begin
Karpur Gauram Karunavataram — Shiva Stuti
कर्पूरगौरं करुणावतारं संसारसारम् भुजगेन्द्रहारम् । सदावसन्तं हृदयारविन्दे भवं भवानी सहितं नमामि ॥
The verse sung at the close of aarti in temples and homes across India — camphor-white, compassion embodied. Its warmth makes it the gentlest way into Shiva devotion, whether you are chanting along or letting it play into the night.

Om Namo Bhagavate Rudraya is a short, steady salutation to Rudra — the fierce yet compassionate form of Lord Shiva.

Vande Dev Umapati is the opening verse of a traditional Shiva Stuti — a single flowing shloka in which the word vande, 'I bow', returns again and again before each name of Shiva: consort of Uma, teacher of the gods, cause of the universe, and refuge of all who take shelter in him.
