Hanuman / Rama
Hanuman Jayanti
The birth of the greatest devotee

Hanuman is honoured on the full moon of Chaitra in the northern reckoning. He is the model of devotion rather than its object: whatever is offered to him, he turns towards Rama.

A recommended mantra for this sacred day
Our library does not yet include a Hanuman chant — but Hanuman's own offering was always Rama's name, so a Rama vandana is what he is traditionally honoured with rather than a substitute for one.
Read the Sanskrit and meaning on the Lokabhiramam Ranarangadhiram — Shri Rama Vandana page, or explore the full mantra library.
Date shown for New Delhi, India. Observance can differ by location because tithi, sunrise and timezone affect the applicable date — please confirm local temple or pañcāṅga timings if precise observance times matter to your practice.
Northern traditions keep Chaitra Purnima; several southern and western traditions observe Hanuman Jayanti on other dates entirely.
